Billy Mac Cutbirth, 65, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 on his farm in Crane, MO. He was born June 4, 1959 in Crane, MO, to Billy Joe and Helen Cutbirth.
Billy attended Crane Schools, was a member of the FFA, and actively participated in baseball and basketball. On April 15, 1977 Billy married Lesa Flood in Crane, MO, on Billy Joe and Helen’s farm, and they bought their first piece of land. At 17 (Billy) and 14 (Lesa) most people said it wouldn’t last, but 47 years later they were still living on, and operating, that same piece of land that’s only grown in acreage and cattle across Stone County.
In 1978, Billy and Lesa started their dairy cow business that they ran for over 25 years. They were blessed with three children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they eventually converted their dairy farm into beef cattle and hay, which he and Lesa operated proudly until the day he died.
Billy was a hard-working, dedicated, and highly-respected husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who loved his family and this land to his bones. Billy never was one to leave the chores to anyone but he and his wife, and “retirement” was a foreign word no one dared speak around him. In addition to raising cattle and hay, Billy loved to cut wood for his shop where you’d find him most every day after the chores, and never without his coffee. But, for as tough a man as he was, Billy had a soft spot for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he affectionately referred to with hand-picked nicknames.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Joe and Helen Cutbirth.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Lesa; one brother, Brian (Carol) Cutbirth; and three children, Ashley (Darren) Woody, Daniel (Liz) Cutbirth, and Katelin (Rex) Payne. He is also survived by, soon-to-be, eight grandchildren, Dalton Bishop, Cora, Baelor, Darci, Claar, and “coming-soon” baby boy Cutbirth, Taytm Cutbirth and Peyton Payne; and his one great-grandson, Boone Bishop.
He will be missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly and enjoyed hearing his many deer stories, and visiting with him in his shop, always over a cup of coffee.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2024 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Short Cemetery, Hurley, Missouri. Arrangements are under the care of Westrip Funeral Home, Crane, MO.
