Davey Lee Walker was born on August 13, 1936 to Dave and Blanche Walker in Crane, Missouri. He went to be with Jesus on March 30, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children.
Davey married his high school sweetheart Nancy Ann Edwards on November 7, 1953. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last year.
Davey was raised on his family farm where he learned the value of hard work and determination, qualities that followed him through his adult life.
Aside from two years spent in Wichita, while working for Boeing, he lived in Crane. He and Nancy made their home in Wichita from approximately 1954 to 1956. While in Wichita, their first daughter, Cynthia Ann, was born.
For the remainder of his days, Davey lived on the family farm that he was born on, just outside of Crane. He loved and cared for the farm dearly, raising cattle, hogs, chickens, and other animals.
While maintaining the farm, Davey and Nancy co-owned the Crane Furniture Store for many years. The entire family enjoyed being a part of the store, visiting with friends and community members daily. Davey is also known for taking matters into his own hands when a burglar broke into the store. In his younger years, he was a salesperson for Nutrena Feed Company and briefly managed a Minnie Pearl Chicken restaurant.
Davey was a skilled businessman. He owned and operated Walker Insurance and Realty in Crane for more than 30 years, which remains in the family. During that time, he also developed Walker Old Towne subdivision, which grew housing opportunities in Crane and remains a thriving neighborhood to this day.
Even after “retirement,” Davey was always working on something. From keeping an immaculate garden to making wood crafts for his grandchildren to repairing an old clock, Davey was never idle.
Davey loved the farm and his work, but he loved his family most of all. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of more than 70 years. Davey’s children Cynthia (Cindy) Ann Pyle (husband James), Leasa Marie Brosseau (husband Kent), David Edwards (Eddy) Walker (wife Tracy), and Cara Lea McMenamy (husband Daryl) all still reside in Crane. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Davey and Nancy attended Crane First Baptist Church and Davey was a vital and respected member of the Crane community.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Crane First Baptist Church Crane, Missouri. Burial was in Crane Community Cemetery under the Care of Westrip Funeral Home Crane, Missouri.
