Dolores M. Shiveley, 93, of Crane, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022.
Dolores was born August 8,1928 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota to Will J. and Tillie G. (Haak) Bokker.
Dolores attended Hart elementary school and graduated from Dell Rapids high school. After graduation she worked for a short period of time as a bookkeeper at a bakery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
She married Earle Benton Shiveley on August 12, 1946, at Dell Rapids, SD. They operated the Dell Rapids Tribune, the local weekly newspaper, until they moved to rural Fairview, Missouri in January 1958 and operated a small dairy farm for a short time.
They moved to Cassville in 1963 when both Benton and Dolores went to work for the Cassville Republican.
In October, 1965 they became the publishers and editors of the Stone County Republican and Crane Chronicle moving to Crane in 1967. After Benton died in 1983 Dolores continued to operate the papers until she retired in 1996.
Dolores served as an alderman on Crane’s City council and mayor pro tem. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Crane Presbyterian Church. She held various leadership positions in both the Eastern Star and her church.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Benton, a son David Shiveley, a granddaughter Jamie Shiveley and three brothers, Calvin, Vernon and Merle Bokker.
Dolores is survived by four sons and their wives, Bill and Dianne Shiveley, Cassville, Terry and Brenda Shiveley, Aurora, Roger and Linda Shiveley, Battlefield and Chuck and Karla Shiveley, Marionville. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and 7 nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Crane Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Crane Community Cemetery Crane, Missouri under the care of Westrip Funeral Home Crane.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Crane Presbyterian Church.
