Helen P. Jennings, 81, Galena, Missouri was born August 5, 1935 at Acushnet, Massachusetts to Stanley and Ruth Helger Smith and departed this July 1, 2017 in her home.
Helen was a very strong loving woman, she loved her family and anyone else who needed her. She had been a surrogate mother to many and granny to others. Helen was born into a family of 10, having 5 brothers and 4 sisters .In her younger days she had a love for roller skating, that is where she met and later married Jim Murphy. Their love of roller skating had led them to become professionals, where they had become the Rhode Island State champions. While in Rhode Island they had their first two children, Debbie and Patty. Helen had moved to Arizona where she had two sons, Jim and William. In her later years she moved to Missouri. She helped raise 3 children as her own in her second marriage after their mother had died.
Helen had Attended Horse Creek Church for many years. She had worked for the Stone County Court for 39 years. She had retired after 22 years and then went back to work for 17 years more before finally retiring completely. In 2013 Helen was diagnosed with Alzheimer's which took her life on July 1, 2017.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Murphy; step daughter, Cindy Parker; five brothers, Howard Helger, Stanley Smith Jr, George Smith, Andrew Smith and Richard Smith; three sisters, Alice Glowczenski, Ruth Corbett and Bertha Dickey and a granddaughter, Niki Brown.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Murphy and Patty Martin of Galena; son, William Gaston of Springfield, Missouri; daughter in law, Lori Murphy; sister, Edith Carter of Florida; grandchildren, Kelly Martin, Lacy Hardesty, James Murphy, Daniel Murphy and Logan Murphy; Great grandchildren, Gabriel Murphy, Sonya Hardesty, Devin Murphy, Austin Martin, Taylor Hill, Tobi Hill, Zoey Murphy, Silas Murphy and Jaydon Murphy; great great granddaughter, MaKenzie Martin; step children, Pam Surratt and Chuck Gaston and families; step grandchildren, Donnie, Duane and David Martin; lots and lots of neices and nephews, lot of other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Westrip Funeral Home, Crane, Missouri. Burial was at Mars Hill Cemetery Crane.
