James (Jim) Thomas Martin, 72, Galena , Missouri was born March 9, 1943 in Shell Knob, Mo to John and Cora Belle Martin (Yocum) and departed this life on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Cox South hospital after a yearlong battle with spine cancer.
Jim moved from his home in Aunts Creek to Galena where he graduated high school. He began his adult life in the United States Air Force serving in Europe, England, Washington State and Texas. He then returned to the area and began construction work and worked with Silver Dollar City building several White Water parks. He continued working for himself with concrete finishing and other construction until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Joe Martin of Willow Springs, MO and Jerry Martin of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Sister-in-law Alma Jean, wife of Joe Martin of Willow Spring, MO
Survivors include one daughter, Tonja Ruth Martin of Clinton, Mo and two sons and daughter-in-laws, James Lance Martin and Emily Martin of Nixa, Mo and Shannon Thomas Martin and Julie Martin of Highlandville, Mo. Six Grandchildren, Hannah Martin 14, Brooke Martin 12, Abby Martin 10, of Nixa, Mo and Jonathan Martin 15, Jacob Martin 11, and Maribelle Martin 8 of Highlandville, Mo. Many nieces and nephews and other relatives in the area.
Memorial Service will be held at Westrip Funeral Home in Crane, MO on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. Interment will be Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery Springfield, Missouri
