
DORIS JANELL WEBB OBITUARY
Doris Janell Webb, 98 years of age, Crane Missouri passed at her home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. She was one of three children born to Lester and Artie (Walker) Hickman on October 10, 1922 in Pea Ridge, Arkansas. She was a graduate of Pea Ridge High School and Kansas City School of Beauty.
Janell married John Webb, her husband of 38 years, on May 25, 1944. They made their home in Pea Ridge, Arkansas, later moving to Seligman, then to Crane to expand their growing LP Gas business, Webb Gas Company. She owned and operated Janell’s Beauty Shop in Crane until her retirement in 1980 (working until age 78).
Janell was a member of the Crane Presbyterian Church, member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a former PTA leader, room mother, little league and sports sponsor, “Mother of the Year” winner, high school Salutatorian, as well as Pea Ridge homecoming queen and Pea Ridge Miss Apple Blossom. Janell was a trailblazer in the 1940’s, leaving her small rural community home and traveling to Kansas City to work and go to Beauty School. During World War II Janell was a true “Rosie The Riveter”, working at Ford Motor Company in Kansas City making carburetor’s for military vehicles during the war. John followed her to the city, later going in to the military. Janell followed him to Rio Grande City, Texas, where they were wed before his departure to what was then Burma to fight in World War II serving in the Army Infantry Calvary. John always said “The war horses ate better than the soldiers!”
Janell loved her family! She was always there for her children, siblings, and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and sewing, as well as gardening and canning. Traveling was a favorite past time…trips to Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Michigan, Maine, Florida, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana, and Colorado were some of the highlights, as well as exploring most of Missouri and Arkansas.
Janell was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother Roger Hickman, and sister Virginia Clanton.
She is survived by her sons, Gary (Connie) Webb of Springfield, Johnny Webb of Crane, and Joe (Becky) Webb of Crane; her daughters Vicki (Terry) May of Galena, and Becky (Roger) Bareis of Marshfield; Nine grandchildren Cessi Triplett of Springfield, Leann (Harold) Steele of Crane, Sarah (Shannon) Lasiter of Crane, Joe (Chasidi) Webb of Cassville, Taressa (Chais) Rankin of Bennett Springs, Tanner (Maddison) May of Galena, Tatum (Bryce) Huddleston of Clever, Mandy (Mitch) Espy of Marshfield, Stephanie (Zach) Clift of Marshfield. Seventeen Great Grandchildren Christina Pike; Jon (Chelsey) Steele; Lacy Pritchert; Josie (Ethan) Dodson; Skye, Silver, and Sola Lasiter; Ella Yates; Cuylar, Camden and Canyon Rankin; Laurel May; Brooks, Brennan, and Baylor Espy; Brady and Brylee Clift; Four Great-Great Grandchildren Olivia Keener, Emery and Grayson Steele, and Everly Dodson.
The family would like to thank special friend Nancy Eraas, as well as Hospice Compassus, for taking such good care of our mom and nannie, as well as our family over the past few years.
Janell will be dearly missed by family, friends, and all that knew her. Visitation will be held on Friday June 25 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Westrip Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Saturday June 26 at 11:00 am at the Crane Presbyterian Church with Wayne Blades officiating. Burial will be in crane Community Cemetery Crane, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crane Presbyterian Church.
