LaMoyne (Messenger) Hummel, 94, passed away October 30, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00PM Saturday, November 15, 2025, Crane Presbyterian Church, Crane, Missouri.
LaMoyne was born on June 23, 1931, to Hazel and Ralph Messenger, at the family’s farmhouse in Woodbine, Iowa. She attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, where she obtained her teaching certificate and met her future husband, Paul. They were married on June 1,1952 and enjoyed almost 55 years together before Paul’s passing in 2007. The family lived in Ames, Iowa, and moved to Crane, Missouri in 1972. She returned to teaching in the Crane and Marionville School systems. LaMoyne loved being a 1 st grade teacher. Seeing the sparkle in a child’s eyes as they learned to read was always very rewarding for her. LaMoyne was also the friendly ticket taker at Silver Dollar City for many seasons.
LaMoyne was a cancer survivor, blood donor, animal lover, singer, talented seamstress and quilter. She was part of the team of Presbyterian ladies who made quilts for Harmony House. She is survived by her son, Steve (Angela) of Rogersville, Missouri, daughter Dorrie of Springfield, Missouri, and daughter Linda Fleming (Jim) of Chandler, Arizona, her dog Krissy, and a wealth of extended family members and friends. Sons Doug and Jim preceded her in death.
As one friend said, “She was one of a kind!” Mom wrote a bio for the church newsletter in 2007 and she concluded it with this…
“So sing a joyful song as I have had a wonderful life!”
