January 21, 1950 Larry Joe Howard was born to Joe and Agnes (Nickum) Howard in Springfield, Missouri.
Larry spent his childhood years in Fair Grove Missouri, graduating high school in 1969.
Long before the days of social media and online dating youngsters from all around would travel to Teen Town in Crane. One of the trips to this tiny town would prove to be crucial in determining his path in life. You see there was this girl who caught his eye and stole his heart on July 19, 1969 Larry made Rita Jean Brown his wife. Through sickness and health by each other’s side for the next 56 years they would be.
This joyful union was blessed by three sons Daniel Paul, Jason Coy (Julie) and Jamie Lynn. Three grandchildren Kelsey Cox, Riley (Hannah) Howard and Chase Howard as well as three great grandchildren Keltan, Liam and Creed.
Larry worked as a tree trimmer for Shade Tree, while also being self-employed by Howard’s Cleaning Service providing contract cleaning as a family business.
As if they weren’t busy enough, Larry and Rita dedicated 20 years of their lives to numerous foster children, in addition to serving 9 years as therapeutic parents to adolescents suffering from drug and alcohol abuse.
Larry treasured time spent on Table Rock Lake. It did not matter whether he was fishing with friends or family, for leisure or competing in an occasional bass or crappie tournament it was hard to beat the peace found casting a line or the excitement of the catch!
In his most recent years, you would find Larry chasing auctions; winning bids brought him much enjoyment. What his family considered to be “junk” he believed to be bargains. We are not sure if it was the thrill of possibly turning a profit or socializing with everyone at his yard sales he enjoyed the most.
On January 8, 2026 with his loving and devoted wife Rita by his side, his final breath was taken.
In honoring his wishes cremation was performed and no services planned.
