Dr. Robert (Bob) Hackley age 99, died on Christmas morning, December 25th, 2023. Although he will be forever missed by his family and friends, it was a peaceful end to a fulfilled life that touched so many people.
Bob was the only child of Claude and Ruth (Howard) Hackley. He was born May 10th, 1924 in Crane, Missouri; the town that would be his beloved home for nearly his entire life.
Bob served in the Navy from February 3rd, 1943, to February 28th, 1946, on active duty. He was with the VPB 19 Naval Patrol Air Squadron in the South Pacific in World War II, stationed in Eniwetok, Iwo Jima, Saipan, and other areas. Following active duty, he continued to serve in the Navy Reserves until 1980 and was a retired Commander Naval Reserve Medical Service Corps, completing 37 years of Naval service.
Bob married Wanda (Whitecotton) Hackley on May 24th, 1947. This was the start of a wonderfully blessed union between two unbelievable souls that stood for over 76 years.
After the war, Bob returned to Crane, Missouri after receiving his doctorate in Optometry from Southern College in Memphis, TN. He served the community of Crane for 41 years as an Optometrist. Bob also was a very prominent figure within the community. He was active with the Bank of Crane, the Crane School Board, the Lions Club and the Crane Presbyterian Church.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Ruth Hackley, his daughter Claudia Hancock, and his granddaughter Marni Gold.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Hackley, grandson-in-law Jeff Gold, granddaughter Rachel Powell and husband Shawn. Great grandchildren Maverick Gold and wife Tori-Anne, Mason Gold and wife Erin, Hunter Powell and wife Abigail, and Jake Powell. Great-great grandchildren Nova, Cadence, and Griffin.
Funeral services was held Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 12:00 p.m in the Crane Presbyterian Church Crane, Missouri. Burial will follow the at the Crane Community Cemetery under the care of Westrip Funeral Home Crane.
