Ruby (Pope) Stockstill
Ruby Stockstill, 93, of Crane, Missouri, passed away on January 24, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She had been a resident in Ozark Mountain Regional Healthcare, Crane, since 2008. A long-time resident of the Crane area, Ruby was born in Hurley, Missouri, on November 3, 1920, to Jodie Thomas Pope and Ida May (Ailshie) Pope. She attended Hurley and Aurora Schools. Ruby married C. E. (Toby) Stockstill on November 9, 1935, and to this union one son was born. Ruby was a member of First Baptist Church, Crane, MO.
Ruby worked as a seamstress in the Crane and Galena garment factories. She also worked on the family dairy farm and supported her husband during his 24 years as Stone County Assessor. Ruby served as Stone County Public Administrator from
1987 to 1990. During her life, Ruby enjoyed sewing, square dancing, cooking and adding to her dish and glassware collections; but, most of all she loved spending time with family and friends.
Her husband Toby Stockstill preceded her in death in 1974. Also preceding her in death were sister Ruth Swing and brother Joe Lee Pope. Ruby is survived by her son Billy Joe Stockstill (Joyce), Springfield, MO; Grandchildren: Brenda Henry (Tim), Marionville, MO; Linda Grubbs (Mike), Marionville, MO; Glenda “Wendy” Metcalf (Brent), Crane, MO; Sandra Metcalf (Larry), Marionville, MO; Clive Stockstill (Yvonne), Galena, MO; Tobi Kosh (Joe), Orlando, FL; Nineteen Great-Grandchildren; Sixteen Great-Great Grandchildren; and One Great-Great-Great Grandchild. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, other relatives and life-long friends.
The family would like to thank Ozark Mountain Regional Healthcare and Preferred Hospice of Missouri for providing such wonderful care and support to Ruby.
Friends are cordially invited to celebrate Ruby’s life. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Westrip Funeral Home, 39670 State Hwy 413, Crane, MO. Burial will follow in Crane Community Cemetery under the care of Westrip Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ruby’s name to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 414, Crane, MO 65633, or in care of the funeral home.
