Wanda Sue Carlton left her home in Elsey to join her Lord and family in heaven, Saturday, March 1, 2025. Wanda Sue and her twin, Cordie Lou were born June 6, 1949 to Auda and Eva (Hunt) Johnson. The girls were born premature, and Cordie Lou only lived a few hours.
As a child, her Dad taught her to read, write, and count before she ever started school. In the first grade, children were supposed to read a certain number of books and give a report on each to receive a certificate at the end of the school year. She spent many hours reading books while stroking a cat and proudly boasted of receiving a certificate for reading and giving reports on over 100 books in the first grade. Her love for cats never ended; she was the most happiest with a lap full of cats and always wanted more of them.
Sue never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile and a hug. She attended school and lived her entire life in the Galena area. After graduating from Galen High School, she attended a computer programming College and later accepted a job in the Crane Garment factory, where she worked many years doing what she enjoyed - sewing. She was married to James Cornelison for 35 years. Following his passing, on October 26, 2016, she married Chuck Carlton.
She enjoyed going to church and was a proud member of Hilltop Church in Crane. She also enjoyed cutting out quilt blocks and making quilts, embroidering all kinds of things, and baking tons of cookies for VBS, holidays, and all occasions which gave her the opportunity to bake something that would bring a smile to a child's face.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Auda and Eva Johnson, her sister Cordie Lou, two brothers, Freddie Leon and Wahuey, her two sons Jesse and Ralph Berry, and her husband, James Cornelison.
Survivors include her husband Chuck Carlson, 6 siblings – Becky Wrenn (Jack) Yakima WA, Judy Eakins (James) Ozark, MO, Nancy Fay LeVan, Cassville, MO, Donald Drennan (Julie) Springfield, MO, Sharlene King (Duane) Crane MO, Connie McCoy (Michael) Springfield MO. She is also survived by her 2 Step-children, Tamitha Fiscal (Antonio), Elsey, MO, and Shawn Carlton (Debra), Marionville, MO, 7 Grandchildren- Alyson Forester (Tim), Spencer, Zack, Jasmine, Jose Diego, Wil, Abi, and 2 great-granddaughters.
