Eddie Joe Brown
Eddie Joe Brown, age 72, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 6:18 a.m. in his home in Elsey. He was born March 7, 1943 to Coy Woodford Brown and Rhoda Alice (Saltkill) Brown of Elsey, Missouri, being ninth of eleven children.
Eddie was a lifelong resident of Elsey and a retired truck driver. He was the self-proclaimed unofficial mayor of Elsey, with family and friends alike who lived in Elsey addressing him as such. He loved to fish, hunt and camp. In his younger years, he fished buddy bass tournaments on Table Rock Lake. He served as a reserve deputy for Stone County in the early seventies helping transport prisoners, work stake out and raids.
Eddie was a generous man with a giving heart. He gave freely of his time, labor and his money to help anyone who was in need. He helped build new churches with funding. materials and labor. He especially enjoyed the work phase of these projects.
Eddie married Janice Fay Eden on February 28, 1963 after a whirlwind courtship that lasted 52 years. Two children were born to this union, Lana (Brown) and Eddie Daron Brown.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Rhoda Brown; 5 brothers, Gerald Brown, Floyd Lee Brown, Eugene Brown, John L Brown and Harlan Brown; 2 sisters, Lorene Dean and Betty Carlton.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; daughter, Lana Gilbert and husband Ralph of Aurora; son, Eddie Daron Brown and wife Tonya of Elsey; 5 grandchildren, Sandy Mullins of St. Louis, Marianna Wilson and husband Brent of Aurora, Eddie Don Brown and wife Tina of Hurley, Eric Pippin and wife Jamie of Crane, Krystal Shea Lippold and husband Cody of Clever; adopted grandson, Dale Swint and wife Kristina and daughter, Aubrey of Galena; 8 great grandchildren, Sophia Mullins, Bria Wilson, Lauren Presley, Colton Brown, Madyson, Mason, Maverick and Mackenzie Pippin; as well as a host of family members, friends and other young men and women who claimed him as their “Pa Brown”. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Phyllis Foster of Elsey and Alice Coleman of Knobnoster; and a brother, Harold “Buster” Brown of Galena.
Funeral service were held Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Westrip Funeral Home, Crane. Burial was in Clio Cemetery, Jenkins under the care of Westrip Funeral Home.
