Georgia Ann Baker, 71, passed peacefully from this life on January 12, 2015 at her home surrounded by her husband and children. The youngest of six children, Georgia, know to many as Georgie was born in Galena, Missouri on June 9, 1943 to Carl and Verda (Edwards) Smith.
Georgie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age while attending Galena Community Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Bob Smith and a sister, Lola Gregg.
Georgie married her husband Bobby R. Baker December 7, 1960. Married for 54 years, Georgie and Bobby raised three daughters, Angela, Sherry and Tonya. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Georgie faithfully cared for her family. Through her loving and sometimes stern nature, she instilled traits of respect, loyalty and compassion in each of her girls.
Known for being a woman of strength and integrity, Georgie’s “tell-it-like-it-is” personality led to many friendships over the years. She never met a stranger. Her natural ability to engage others in conversation fostered life-long friendships that she maintained and held dear to her heart.
Georgie always had a strong work ethic, holding various positions in and around the community. She held a position as a machinist at G B manufacturing in the 70’s. In the 80’s, she was employed as a CAN in Crane Nursing Home Facility. She would often share stories of the elderly. Her love for them and the position she held was undeniable. Later in life, Georgie continued her employment at Stone County Court House, where she retired in 2005.
Georgie possessed a real zest for life. She loved to dance, sing, play cards and do ceramics. She loved attending her girl’s ball games and later her grandchildren’s events. She continued to enjoy time with her friends, sharing Coffee and Playing bingo.
Georgie is survived by her husband of 54 years Bobby R. Baker; daughters, Angela (Tom) Heydt, Sherry (Mike) Seager and Tonya Baker; grandchildren, Jennifer Baker, Aubry Heydt, Zaccary Seager and Tyler Seager; brother Claude Smith of Kansa City Kansas, Floyd Smith of Marionville, Missouri and beloved sister and best friend, Inez Rice of Galena.
