Reed Cook
Jim Cook, 85, of Springfield, Missouri went home to be with the Lord on
March 3, 2013. Jim was born in
Crane, Missouri to J. Hugh Thomas and Pearl Coones Cook on December 20,
1927. Jim farmed and worked horses
with his family at the mouth of Wheeler on the James River where he met his
future wife, Ella Marie Maples, whose family farmed across the river. After graduating from Crane High
School, Jim married Marie in 1945, worked on the railroad, served in the Army
Air Corp, then settled in Crane working at Hilton’s Hardware and later the MFA
Hardware. Jim concluded his
career as a branch manager providing wholesale heating and air conditioning
supplies for his many dealer/friends throughout his Missouri/Arkansas
territory.
As a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Crane and long
standing deacon and Sunday school teacher, Jim cherished his Crane church
family. After retiring and moving
to Springfield in 1995, Jim faithfully served as an active member at Ridgecrest
Baptist Church volunteering and offering to serve where
possible.
Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marie Cook, daughters Pat Allen
(Dane) and Pam Collins (Terry) and son Bob Cook (Ginny).
Jim has eight grandchildren:
Eric Allen, Matt Allen, Jason Collins, Jon Collins, Taylor Collins, Ryan
Cook, Jared Cook, and Lindsey Cook Wilkerson, as well as nine great
grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1-3 pm Thursday, March 7 at the First Baptist
Church of Crane, Missouri with service at 3 pm. Burial will follow in Crane
Cemetery under the care of Westrip Funeral Home Crane, Missouri.
The family has requested
that any memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or your
local church.
